The More the Merrier – Reading Multiple Books at Once

There is no right way to read. While some have to focus on one book at a time, others can be reading two or three books at a time, and even throw in an audiobook or two..

But believe it or not, there are actually benefits to reading multiple books at once. Here are a few:

  1. Helps you get through your TBR pile faster.

Do you have a long list of books that you want to finish by the end of the year? Well pick up two at the same time and boom! You will be finished before you know it.

  1. You can balance your pleasure reading with your required reading.

If you are still in school or you have to read a lot for your job, reading a second book will still give you that pleasure in reading. You can pick your own must reads while also reading your have to’s.

  1. Balance emotional reads with lighthearted books.

Have you been afraid to pick up a tear jerker because you know how it will affect your emotions? Try balancing it out with a fun quirky read so that way it won’t put a damper on your mood.

  1. It allows you to enjoy books in many mediums.

Reading multiple books at once is not only fun, but it’s easy with all the different forms! Listen to an audiobook on your commute, take an ebook with you in the car or to an activity, and enjoy a physical book at home. The possibilities are endless!

  1. It allows you to take advantage of all the benefits of reading.

Life can have you down sometimes with work, bills to pay, and simply the everyday go to’s of life. Having a book that you can pick up to make you laugh when you’re sad, or take you to another world when you feel like having an adventure is a great way to get away for a little while. Read it all!

Happy Reading!

Your Dreams Can Improve Your Writing

Dreams can be a source of raw inspiration to authors. You just have to find a way to unlock it. Here are some tips on how to use your dreams to their full advantage:

1.Keep a dream journal

By simply keeping a pad and paper next to your bed allows you to quickly jot down notes so you can remember in the morning. You don’t have to analyze the dream in the middle of the night, but write down the things that will spark your memory.

2. Take up daydreaming

Let your mind drift. Open your mind to other possibilities.

3. Go deeper into your dreams

Lucid dreaming is the ability to recognize that you are dreaming. Once you have the ability, you will be able to control your choices and behaviors in the dream world. Explore different outcomes and gain control over your dreams.

Now, I understand some people may say ‘I don’t remember my dreams’ or ‘I don’t dream at all’.  My recommendation is to begin with day dreaming and see if you can take it further. There is a lot we are missing about dreams, and there are ways we can learn about the specific ones we are having- we must not forget that our minds are constantly working. As a writer you can use that to your advantage. Just don’t try too hard!

Happy Dreaming!

Time is of the Essence

January is still rocking and rolling, so put your writing in motion! You have a whole decade to reach your writing goals, but take them one day at a time. I find it best to make a schedule…make one per day, week, or month. Some of the key benefits to scheduling include:

Improves Time Management

Everyone has busy lives that can be jam packed with events and things to do, but blocking out time means that none of your time is wasted. Keep on top of everything that needs to be done.

Allows Prioritization

“I will do it tomorrow” – the saying we have all said time and time again. Well now is the time to put that task at number one. Scheduling allows you to prioritize and get the most important tasks done first.

Enhances Efficiency

The satisfaction of being able to cross something off your list says it all. Having a scheduled list can enhance your efficiency by keeping everything organized.

These are just a few ways incorporating a schedule into your daily life can help you stay on track. I know it can seem a bit tedious and can take away some spontaneity, but try it out for yourself!

There are so many apps to help you along the way as well! I can be more of a pen to paper person myself, but if you need alerts and extra amenities along the way there are apps and programs out there just for you.

Now instead of frustratingly trying to remember what needs to be done, check your schedule with ease. Whether it be for writing a certain amount of pages, getting paperwork in on time, or simply reading a few chapters write it down and make it work. This is your schedule and your time!
